Information Management 1 Class Experience

By: Jeffrey B. Castaneda of BSCS 1A

Information Management I is a very interesting unit. It began in the second semester last January 2023. It discusses databases, database management systems, and SQL. As computer science students, we must understand how to create databases. It is essential in the development of systems, web apps, mobile applications, and other applications. Writing SQL commands is enjoyable, and part of it is simple at first but becomes more sophisticated with code.

Important topics covered in information management may include:
  • Information organization and retrieval: Using tools such as databases, search engines, and categorization systems to effectively organize and retrieve information.
  • Information architecture is the process of designing and structuring information systems, such as websites and intranets, to meet the objectives and goals of users.
  • Data management is the process of managing huge amounts of data, which includes data modeling, database design, and data mining techniques.
  • Knowledge management is the process of capturing, storing, and sharing knowledge inside an organization, including approaches for developing knowledge repositories and encouraging knowledge sharing.
  • How to manage sensitive or confidential material, including problems of privacy, security, and intellectual property.
In general, an information management course provides students with a foundation of knowledge and abilities that can be applied in a wide range of industries and employment responsibilities, including IT project management, business analysis, and database administration.
